Hi, it’s Josh and Kalie, the founders of ExpatsEverywhere. We’ve decided to start a brand new YouTube channel featuring different content than just living abroad. It still certainly has elements of living abroad but it is tied to our first ever real estate purchase abroad.
We’re two Americans who have invested in real estate since 2008. We’ve bought and sold real estate in 3 different states in the US, but never did we think of investing abroad. Well, in June of 2023, we made that leap and purchased a very rundown building in the Bonfim neighborhood of Porto, Portugal.
We’ve already hit some bumps in the road. There were even bumps in the road just to identify the property.
We decided that we’d like to document this process in the best way we know how, which is video content. We’ve created the new channel called “Let’s Get Building with Josh & Kalie”. Our goal is to take you, our rehab rebels, on a journey of renovating an old building in Europe. Showing you the challenges, decisions that need to be made, the characters that can help through the process, and what the outcome might be.
Speaking of outcome, it’s not clear what it’ll be. Will this be a happy ending? Will we meet our deadline? All I can say is that we hope but there’s nothing guaranteed. What we can promise is this: that we’re going to try to cover it all and show it to you.
What it’s not going to be is a DIY home renovation channel. We simply don’t have the expertise nor time, energy, and effort for that. We have some renovation experience, but this project is going to be way more complex and complicated than that. You might see us swing a hammer and get our hands dirty from time to time, but that won’t be the norm. What will be the norm is showing you where we are in the process, explaining how we got there, what things need to be accomplished, and any words of advice we might have as we go through this journey with firsthand experience.
